Getting Busy

for Birth Control

Our Mission

We are building and energizing an activist base

for Reproductive Justice by investing in young people.

About NYBCAP

Every advocate we work with has a story of struggling to access birth control. Unfortunately, these aren’t isolated anecdotes—they reflect a broader, measurable problem.
We center our work on birth control access and focus our resources on training reproductive health advocates.

Our success is thanks to the advocates we work with. And it’s inspiring when they take what they learn and apply it to the real world to make it better.

Rochelle Rodney
Co-Executive Director

“As a fellow at the NY Birth Control Access Project I organize young people from across NY state  to urge their legislators to support policies that increase access to birth control. At NYBCAP we teach advocates how to communicate the issue, strategies, and tactics to persuade legislators, and provide access to experts in all different fields. The Birth Control Access Act which allows pharmacists to prescribe birth control, passed in 2023 because of NYBCAP advocates who consistently met with legislators in Albany. The most rewarding part of my job is empowering advocates and equipping them with tools to become leaders in their communities.” – Isabella Grullon, Fellow

“I love this program. I believe it allows me to advocate for issues I think are really important that I previously was at a stand still about. It felt like I just had to watch as the world decided around me, but now I believe I have a voice and can actually do things to change laws.” – Mishal Vakil, Associate Board Member

Why Now

New York is failing to meet demand for contraception. With fewer contraceptive providers per capita than most states – ranking with Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas – and 1.2 million women living in a contraceptive desert, patients are being left without the care they need.

Our Model

NYBCAP has developed a unique model for social change through an Associate Board for advocates from public colleges across New York. Today over 400 young people have graduated from the Associate Board program. We provide hands-on-training models to equip young people with the skills they need to bring real advocacy into the real world. These advocates tell us they join because they want an opportunity to meaningfully engage in an issue that impacts them—and report they are more civically educated and engaged because of their time with us.

NYBCAP operates at the intersection of advocacy and policy to actualize legislative and regulatory reforms; provide sex education courses; and mobilize a new generation of highly trained and motivated advocates.
